Puppy Rescued After Elastic Band Left Deep Wound Around Snout
A young puppy in Houston is recovering after enduring a cruel act of abuse that left him with a severe facial injury.
At just eight weeks old, the puppy — now named Sharky — was found in a north Houston parking lot near the Gulf Freeway and West Road. Someone had tightly wrapped an elastic hairband around his snout, causing painful swelling and a deep cut that extended all the way to the bone. A Good Samaritan who discovered him quickly brought the injured pup to the Houston SPCA for help.
Veterinarians immediately began treating Sharky with pain management, hydrotherapy, antibiotics, and medication to stabilize him. On October 25, Houston SPCA veterinarian Dr. Rebecca Shipley performed a three-hour surgery to repair the damage.
Now three months old, the Shepherd mix is recovering in a foster home and, despite the trauma, is said to be doing well.
