Too Young to Be Alone — Abandoned 6-Month-Old Puppy, Cold and Alone at Dangerous Construction Site

Sugar Belle, a six-month-old female puppy, was recently rescued from a construction site in Mississippi. According to local workers, she had been seen lying quietly in the dirt for several weeks, covered in mud. No one had intervened until earlier this week, when NYC Second Chance Rescue received a request for help. After reviewing the information and photo submitted, the organization agreed to take her in.

She was immediately transported to a 24-hour critical care animal hospital, where veterinarians began stabilizing her condition. Upon examination, Sugar Belle was found to have severe mange that left her with raw skin and open wounds. She was also heavily infested with ticks on her ears, legs, and face. Her condition had led to anemia and several secondary infections.

Veterinary staff began treatment with intravenous fluids, antibiotics, parasite control, and intensive skin care. Due to the severity of her anemia, a blood transfusion may be necessary. In addition to these health concerns, Sugar Belle was underweight, likely from prolonged malnutrition.

Her condition is being closely monitored, and she will require ongoing medical care. Updates will be provided as she continues her recovery.
