Senior Dog in Need of Rescue Placement
Oliver, a 10-year-old, 18-pound mixed terrier, is currently housed at ACCT Philly after being found as a stray. He was discovered by an APO officer hiding under a car, injured but non-aggressive during rescue.
Initial veterinary assessment suggests Oliver may have been hit by a car. Further evaluation revealed puncture wounds and soft tissue damage to his leg. No fractures were detected, but Oliver remains in pain and requires additional care.
Oliver has a microchip, and records indicate his previous owner is deceased. No family members have come forward to claim him.
Veterinary Notes as of July 23, 2025:
-
Wounds are healing appropriately.
-
Dog is alert and responsive, with a good appetite.
-
Intermittent lameness in right forelimb.
-
Cries during handling, especially when neck is flexed to the left or cervical spine is palpated.
-
Pain response may have behavioral factors but is still significant.
Urgency of Placement:
Oliver (ACCT-A-226103) is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to his medical condition. He must have confirmed placement with a rescue partner by Friday, July 25 at 10:00 AM. Given the shelter’s current overcapacity and high intake levels, deadline extensions are unlikely.
Placement status and urgency may change if Oliver’s medical or behavioral condition changes.
