A one-year-old dog named Herbie is now recovering in the care of the Animal Rescue League of Boston (ARL) after being found tied to a pole outside a veterinary clinic with a serious eye injury. Herbie was brought in by Boston Animal Care and Control on December 11 and urgently transferred to ARL’s Boston Animal Care and Adoption Center for evaluation and treatment.
Upon examination, it was determined that Herbie’s left eye was proptosed—a condition where the eye is displaced from its socket—likely due to trauma. Emergency surgery was performed to remove the damaged eye. This type of injury is not uncommon in small dogs and often results from an accident.
Despite the injury, Herbie was otherwise in excellent condition. He was well-groomed, healthy, and very friendly, leading ARL to believe his former owner may have been facing a crisis and did not know where to turn for help.
Following surgery, Herbie is recovering well and remains active and playful. He is expected to live a normal, healthy life.
