According to Khaosod newspaper (Thailand), Ping Pong, a dog with only 3 legs, has just become the hero of Tha Talat village after finding a newborn baby buried alive in a cassava field on Wednesday this week (May 15).

The dog was barking loudly and digging up dirt in a field about 1km from the village. Mr. Usa Nisaikha (Ping Pong’s owner) said that when he heard the dog barking and the baby crying in the cassava field, he ran to check and saw the baby’s two legs exposed in the dirt.

Villagers rushed to take the newborn baby to the hospital. After being bathed and cared for by doctors, the baby’s health stabilized. Police said the baby was still alive because it was only buried shallowly in the ground.

Police quickly detained a 15-year-old girl, the mother of the newborn boy . She told police she buried the baby to hide her pregnancy and birth from her parents because she was afraid her father would beat her.

According to Mr. Usa Nisaikha, he has raised Ping Pong since he was born. Now Ping Pong is 6 years old and lost a leg after being run over by a car.

“I still keep it because it is a loyal and obedient dog. It always helps me when I go to the fields and take care of the livestock. Everyone in the village loves it. It’s wonderful that it found the child,” he shared.

The newborn baby boy ‘s mother has now been charged with child abandonment and attempted murder.

The Bangkok Post quoted police officer Panuwat Puttakam of Chum Phuang police station as saying that the girl is being cared for by her parents and a psychologist.

Mr Puttakam also said the girl was very remorseful for her actions.

The boy’s parents, who are also his maternal grandparents, decided to raise the child.
