Bennie & Jett — Two Souls, One Bond
Last week in Houston, shelter volunteer Madeline noticed two skinny, nearly identical puppies huddled together in the back of their kennel.
“They were peas in a pod,” Madeline wrote. “Every move they made, they made together.”
The brothers pressed their paws against the bars, eyes pleading for someone to notice them. Then Madeline saw the heartbreaking note on their kennel card — both were on the euthanasia list. If no one stepped in within hours, their time would be up.
Madeline posted a video online, praying for a miracle. That miracle came in the form of Summer, an experienced foster mom, who contacted Sunnyside Street Dogs. Intake was closed, but once they heard Bennie and Jett’s story, they couldn’t say no.
Within hours, the brothers were safe in Summer’s home. At first, they were so emaciated that the shelter guessed they were only 10 weeks old — but in truth, they were closer to 6 or 7 months.
Now, after just a week of good food, soft beds, and endless love, the boys are gaining weight, playing with toys, and racing around the yard.
“Jett is my laid-back cuddlebug,” Summer says. “Bennie is full of energy and loves everyone. They balance each other perfectly.”
Bennie and Jett have survived the hardest days of their lives together — and they deserve to spend the rest of their days together, too. Soon, they’ll be fully vetted and neutered, ready for adoption as a pair through Sunnyside Street Dogs.
“I just want someone who will love them as family, forever,” Summer says.
After everything they’ve been through, Bennie and Jett only need one more miracle — a home that will keep them side by side, where they belong.
