Six Years of Suffering: Jake Finally Gets the Help He Deserves

Hunched in pain, he cried constantly and couldn’t even turn his head…

Dog Living with Salivary Tumor for 6 years Gets a Fresh New Start

After living with an enormous salivary tumor for six long years, a sweet dog named Jake is finally receiving the veterinary care he has always needed — and deserved.

According to the rescue group Long Way Home, Jake’s former family did love him. But when his face began to swell, they didn’t take him to the vet. They believed it was the result of a snake bite and left it untreated.

“Jake has been living with a salivary tumor for SIX YEARS,” the organization shared. “He’s been an indoor dog his whole life, perfectly house-trained, friendly with other dogs, and even knows how to shake.”

Last week, Jake was found wandering alone in a rural part of Texas. That’s when the group Cribs for Canines stepped in, working with his family to surrender him so he could get the urgent care he needed.

He was brought to the Texas Animal Medical Center in Waco, where Dr. Lide and his team have been caring for him. One of the first procedures? Draining 1,200cc of salivary fluid from Jake’s neck.

“For the first time in six years, Jake was able to turn his head,” the team shared. “It may seem like such a small thing — but for Jake, it was a huge relief.”

 Still a Long Road Ahead

Jake is now eating, pooping properly, and even wagging his tail. His spirits are high, and he seems comfortable for the first time in years.

There are no guarantees about his full recovery — but a devoted team is now doing everything they can to give Jake the second chance he never had.
