An abandoned male puppy was found inside a dumpster in Etobicoke over the long weekend.
The discovery was made Saturday afternoon by a veterinary technician from Kingston Road Animal Hospital, who heard the puppy crying while walking her dog. The animal was located near a backpack and a dresser drawer.
Toronto Animal Services is now involved in the case.
The puppy was found with a severed nose and tail and was diagnosed with roundworms. He also tested positive for Parvovirus, a highly contagious condition spread through contact with dog feces.
The dog is currently under treatment at Vets Toronto. Hospital officials report that he has started eating again but note that Parvovirus remains a severe and potentially fatal disease even for vaccinated dogs.
