Meet Fifty — The Two-Legged Pit Bull Who Refused to Give Up
Fifty the Pit Bull was born to bring hope.
His mother was rescued while pregnant, and when her puppies arrived, a loving family adopted Fifty, giving him the chance at a beautiful life. He grew up in a happy home, full of love and laughter, alongside his canine sister, Izzy.
But then, tragedy struck.
While out one day, a patrolling police officer shot Fifty in both of his right legs — a heartbreaking case of Pit Bull prejudice, despite Fifty being a sweet and gentle soul. The damage was irreversible, and both limbs had to be amputated.
Learning to walk again with just two left legs was a monumental challenge. But just as he began adjusting to his new reality, fate delivered another cruel blow: Fifty’s family lost their home in the recession, and he and Izzy were surrendered to a shelter.
Once again, Fifty had to start from zero.
But he didn’t give up.
Using the walls for support, he tried — and failed — over and over to stand. But with determination and heart, he taught himself to walk, then to run. Over nine months at the shelter, Fifty rebuilt not just his strength — but his spirit.
Finally, he was adopted into a new forever home.
There, he found joy again — in snuggles, in playtime, and in companionship. His new family fosters animals in need, and Fifty quickly became the perfect foster brother, comforting dogs going through the same pain and loss he had endured.
