Honey’s Fight for Life After a Horrific Trap Injury
On June 16, 2020, a small dog named Honey was found lying helplessly by the roadside in Vietnam — broken, bleeding, and in unimaginable pain.
She had been caught in a cruel trap, likely intended for wild animals or for the brutal dog meat trade. Somehow, against all odds, she managed to pull herself free and drag her fragile body to safety. But her ordeal was far from over.
A tourist spotted her collapsed near the road and immediately called for help. Our partner Paws for Compassion rushed to the scene. What they found was heartbreaking: Honey’s hind leg had been torn apart, leaving the bone exposed. The poor girl was moments away from slipping into shock.
Emergency Rescue
Honey was rushed into emergency surgery. She received strong antibiotics and pain relief, but her injuries were far too severe. To save her life, the only option was to amputate her destroyed limb.
The surgery was successful — but Honey’s journey had only just begun. Weak and traumatized, she refused to eat for several days. It took time, gentle care, and patience before she slowly found the strength to lift her head, accept food, and trust again.
A Long Road Ahead
Today, Honey is safe under the care of our rescue partners. She is recovering steadily, though her road to healing remains long. She continues to receive daily wound care, antibiotics, and intensive nursing support.
Despite everything she’s endured, Honey’s spirit shines through. With each passing day, she grows stronger, braver, and a little more hopeful.
Our dream is for Honey to one day run freely on three legs — and find the loving forever home in Vietnam that she has always deserved.
