Apple’s Remarkable Recovery After Horrific Injuries
When Apple arrived at the WVS Jeanne Marchig International Training Centre in Chiang Mai, no one could say for certain what she had endured — only that her injuries were among the worst the team had ever seen. It was possible her head had been run over by a motorbike, or perhaps she had been struck with a machete. Whatever the cause, she was barely holding on to life.
The entire left side of her face was torn apart. From her nostril to her eye ran an open, infected wound crawling with maggots. Her left eye appeared to be beyond saving.
The prognosis was grim, and the team agonized over whether continuing treatment was the kindest option.
But the vets at WVS weren’t ready to give up. After stabilizing Apple and relieving her pain, the Thai veterinary team began the difficult work of cleaning and treating her wounds. Through daily wound care, surgical debridement, and careful administration of antibiotics and pain relief, Apple began to show signs of improvement.
Against all odds, Apple’s condition steadily improved. Within just five weeks, her wound was healing remarkably well — and her eye, once thought lost, had been saved.
Winning over everyone she met, Apple’s resilience and gentle spirit made a lasting impression. Her story touched the heart of a local family, who later welcomed her into their home, offering the loving future she so richly deserves.
