Senior Dog Left Tied to Picnic Table Finds Safety and Hope
In a quiet corner of Schiller Park in Syracuse, New York, a senior dog rested his head on the pavement, tethered to a picnic table. Beside him, a handwritten note explained what he couldn’t say himself:
“I’m a good boy. I’m about 17 years old. My name is Max. My owners can’t take care of me no more. Please help me!”
When local dog advocates and animal control officers arrived, they found the frail pup exactly as described. Volunteers from Cuse Pit Crew and members of the Syracuse Police Department carefully secured Max and rushed him to an emergency veterinary clinic.
Despite his age and emaciated frame, Max’s gentle spirit shone through. He gratefully accepted food and care, and with every meal, his body slowly began to regain strength. Soon after, he was transferred to HumaneCNY, where staff and volunteers fell in love with his personality.
“His vision and hearing aren’t the best, but his nose works 110%,” Max’s foster parent shared. “He loves treats, enjoys short walks, and absolutely thrives on human companionship.”
Max may be a senior, but he hasn’t lost his zest for life. He enjoys exploring, snuggling with his caregivers, and savoring every special snack — even whipped cream.
Now healthy enough for adoption, Max is searching for a forever home with someone who understands the unique needs of senior dogs.
“He truly is a goofy boy who has a lot of love to give,” said Maureen Davison, executive director of HumaneCNY. “We hope he finds his perfect family soon.”
