Saved but Scarred: Flamenco Dog Ragnar’s Heartbreaking Final Farewell

Maverick’s Last Ride Turns Into a Journey of Love and Hope

When Joey Maxwell and his wife first saw Maverick at a high-kill shelter, he was nothing but skin and bones. But they looked past the pain — and brought him home. For six beautiful years, Maverick was a beloved part of their family.

Ragnar, a flamenco dog that was saved and battled to the very last, passes away because “He Can’t Take It Anymore.”

So when he was later diagnosed with lymphoma, Joey vowed to do everything he could to help his best friend fight. Chemotherapy initially worked, but when the cancer returned two months ago, Maverick could no longer walk.

That’s when Joey had an idea —
He would pull Maverick in a wagon, making sure his final days were filled with fresh air, sunshine, and love.

At first, it was just a small act of kindness for his dog. But soon, it became something much bigger.

“He howls at everyone that walks by until they come pet him,” Joey told CBS News.
“He thinks the whole world is here to love on him.”

And maybe he’s right.

After Joey shared their story, strangers offered support, Lowe’s gave him a 50% discount on a new wagon, and people across town began stopping just to greet Maverick and share a moment of love.

What started as a goodbye gift has turned into a miracle of community, compassion, and hope.

“Mav is gaining strength every day,” Joey said.
“He can now sit up by himself, and we know how much he means to people. He’s felt every bit of that love.”

Maverick’s story reminds us that no matter how short our time may be, it can be filled with joy, dignity, and the healing power of love.
