A post shared on the popular online forum Bobaedream revealed shocking photos of a young dog left in a deserted forest on Jeju. The images showed the puppy with its mouth cruelly sealed with tape and its front legs tightly bound with rope, leaving it unable to move and forced to lie helplessly on the ground.

According to the post, which included screenshots from Instagram uploaded by the rescuer, the scene was deeply distressing:

“I don’t know how long this dog had been tied up like this. Its body was covered in wounds and discharge. The legs were bound in an unnatural position, making it impossible to move. The dog was abandoned on a secluded path surrounded by canola flowers. I had to carry it to safety before removing the ropes.”

When the ropes were finally cut, the rescuer said the dog’s legs had lost all sensation, leaving it unable to stand or walk.

The post quickly went viral, sparking outrage among Korean netizens. Many expressed anger at such cruelty, with comments such as:

  • “I hope people stop adopting animals just because they look cute without the intention of truly caring for them.”

  • “The exhaustion in this dog’s eyes shows the torment it has endured.”

  • “This level of cruelty is beyond imagination.”

Although the incident actually took place on April 13, 2022, it only recently resurfaced online. The rescuer was later identified as a volunteer from Hallim Shelter, a local animal rescue organization.

Thankfully, the dog—now affectionately named Joohongi—has recovered significantly under the care of the shelter’s volunteers. Recent photos show Joohongi walking outdoors again, a stark contrast to the horrifying condition in which it was first found.
