Ralph, a young wire-haired dachshund, vanished during a walk last week, sparking a frantic search led by his owner, Sarah McLellan. With the help of family, friends, and a quickly growing Facebook page, the community joined forces to find him.

The turning point came when Ralph’s doggy sister, Edie, picked up his scent and led the search team to a rabbit hole in a nearby field. Rescuers discovered Ralph was trapped five feet underground — exhausted, underweight, and with worn-down nails from trying to dig his way out.

“They had to carefully dig around him so the hole wouldn’t collapse,” McLellan explained. “It took two hours to get him out.”

Despite the ordeal, Ralph’s spirit remained intact.

“He’s the same a***hole he always was,” McLellan joked after their emotional reunion.

Thanks to the determination of those who searched and the sharp nose of his sister Edie, Ralph is now home, safe — and no doubt grounded.
