A lost dog was finally rewarded after waiting in the rain for days, hoping his owner would return to take him home.
A video capturing the emotional reunion between the stray dog and his owner has moved many people to tears.
The dog, a Thai Ridgeback named Cha Thai, had accidentally jumped out of the back of a pickup truck while traveling with his owner through Phetchabun Province, Thailand. Unaware of what had happened, the owner kept driving.
Cha Thai then waited in the rain for several days, hoping his owner would come back.
According to Puttan Onta, a local shopkeeper, the loyal dog stood in the rain for about five days without leaving the spot.
“The dog refused to take shelter. He just stood in the rain waiting for his owner to return. Every time a white car passed by, he would run after it, thinking it was his owner,” Puttan shared.
Touched by his loyalty, local vendors gave him food, but Cha Thai still appeared sad and refused to move away from the roadside.
Out of pity, Puttan posted photos of Cha Thai on Facebook to help find his owner. Shortly after the post went viral, Cha Thai’s owner showed up at Puttan’s shop to take the dog home.
A heartwarming video recorded by Puttan shows Cha Thai’s overwhelming joy upon seeing his owner again — a moment that brought tears to many viewers.
The owner expressed deep gratitude to Puttan and the shopkeepers for caring for the dog during his wait.
“Cha Thai’s reaction clearly showed how happy he was to be reunited. He truly is a loyal and loving dog. I will miss him when he leaves,” said Puttan.
Cha Thai’s owner explained that their family lives in another province. After returning home from the trip, they realized Cha Thai was missing from the pickup and searched everywhere but couldn’t find him. It was only when a family member came across the Facebook post that they recognized their beloved pet and quickly went to retrieve him.
The Thai Ridgeback, also known as the “Phu Quoc dog of Thailand,” is a hunting breed native to western Thailand. Medium-sized and muscular, it is distinguished by the ridge of hair growing backward along its back.
These dogs are strong, intelligent, and fiercely loyal, with an average lifespan of 12–13 years. Thanks to their protective nature, they are widely kept in Thailand as guard dogs, farm protectors, and hunting companions.
