Left Behind At Shelter, He Became A Lifesaving Blood Donor For A Puppy In Peril

From Abandoned to Hero: Shelter Dog Saves Puppy’s Life With Blood Donation

Has your dog ever been a blood donor? Just like people, dogs can save lives too — and one special pup in Texas just proved it.

Bronson, a one-and-a-half-year-old terrier and pit bull mix living at Austin Pets Alive!, is being called a hero after donating blood to a dangerously anemic puppy named Nemo. When Nemo arrived at the shelter with his mom and siblings, he was the smallest of the litter and extremely weak due to anemia — his body lacked enough red blood cells to carry oxygen.

Thanks to Bronson’s life-saving blood donation, little Nemo is now recovering in foster care with some of his siblings. Though still small and dealing with a cloudy eye that may affect his vision, he’s doing much better thanks to quick action by the shelter staff — and Bronson’s generous spirit.

Bronson was found tied to a pole in the shelter’s parking lot just a few weeks ago. He had no microchip, and no one came to claim him. But in just a short time, he went from being abandoned to saving a life.

The shelter describes Bronson as a “goofy, high-energy pup with giant expressive ears and a joyful spirit.” He’s still waiting for his forever family, but in the meantime, he’s already made a huge impact.

“From being left behind to becoming a literal lifesaver, Bronson’s journey is a powerful reminder that every animal has worth — and every one of them deserves a chance.”
