Knowing he was gravely ill, the little dog chose to leave home to die alone
This touching story was shared by Facebook user T.M.P.Q on October 1st in the group “Không Sợ Chó” (“Not Afraid of Dogs”), moving many readers. According to the kind-hearted young man, the sick little dog wandered the streets alone and refused to return home, even when its owner came looking. It seemed the dog didn’t want its owner or mother dog to witness its final moments, which deeply touched many people.
“When he knew he was going to die, he left home. For the past few days, he’s been wandering near the intersection in front of my house since 6 AM. I’ve tried everything to approach him—offering food, using a leash—but nothing worked.
This afternoon, even his owner came to bring him home, but he refused and even growled as if to bite. He chose to die far away, so neither his owner nor his mother dog would see him go… His owner gave up and left. Their home is more than 2 kilometers from here.
I couldn’t bear to see him die like that, so I wrapped my arm in an old pair of jeans and tried again. Luckily, he didn’t bite. I guess he was too tired to fight anymore. He finally surrendered. He’s now been taken to a vet in the city. Please wish him a full recovery,” shared T.M.P.Q in the group.
Photos show the sick, frail dog with matted fur and visible wounds around his mouth standing helplessly by a gate, evoking sympathy from many.
“That’s beautiful of you,” one commenter wrote. “I’ve been raising two dogs since Tet. When I don’t come home, I always buy them something. Animals really grow attached to people. Every time I come home, they crawl into my room and sleep by my bed. If I don’t let them in, they scratch the door. It’s in a dog’s nature to leave when it feels it’s going to die—it doesn’t want its loved ones to witness the end. I really hope this pup recovers and regains his strength.”
Another person added:
“Wishing this little dog a speedy recovery. No matter what happens, the fact that he is now being cared for and loved during these painful days will bring him warmth and comfort. Thank you!”
