Just because he wanted to fulfill his duty of guarding his owner’s property, a poor dog in Cairo, Egypt, had his snout brutally cut off by heartless people—leaving him disfigured and disabled.
Like any guard dog, when strangers approached the property, the dog naturally barked and chased them away. But for doing just that, Anubis had his nose and part of his upper jaw cut off by the intruders. Soon after, he was discarded like trash—no longer “useful.”
For years, people saw a dog with a horrifying, mutilated face wandering the streets of Cairo, resting wherever he could. In all that time, Anubis lost his bark—he was completely silent, the once-loud black dog now voiceless.
But although Anubis lost his literal voice, animal welfare organizations would become his voice. First, the local Animal Protection Foundation in Cairo, known for rescuing abandoned animals, stepped in. Then SNARR (Special Needs Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation), a U.S.-based group, joined in the mission to give Anubis the justice and life he deserved.
Anubis was flown to the United States, where volunteers helped escort him across multiple states—from New York’s JFK airport, to Maryland, Tennessee, and finally Texas. At each stop, kind-hearted people fed him, comforted him, and gave him rest. It was more than just a journey—it was Anubis’s road back to love.
In El Paso, Texas, Anubis found what may become his forever family. Originally taken in under a six-month foster arrangement, the bond between Anubis and his new parents—and even a blind dog “sister”—is so strong that he may stay for life.
Once a mutilated and forgotten street dog, Anubis now lounges on sofas, eats well, and enjoys the warmth of family. Fate may have been cruel for years, but at last, it smiled on the little fighter from Cairo.
