Police in Austin are investigating a case of animal cruelty after an injured dog was discovered abandoned on Wednesday morning in North Austin.

According to the Austin Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 8:25 a.m. following a call reporting a deceased dog near the intersection of West Croslin Street and Guadalupe Street. Authorities believe the dog may be a Boxer or Boston Terrier mix. She was wearing a brown collar with rhinestone studs at the time she was found.

The crate remained on the street for the rest of the day. Police have not released further details about how long the dog may have been left unattended or whether surveillance footage from the area is being reviewed.

Animal cruelty investigators are now working to identify the person responsible. The case is being investigated under Texas laws relating to cruelty to non-livestock animals.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or who may have seen suspicious activity in the area to contact the Austin Police Department.
