This is Molly, a smart little dog from Malawi. After suffering a severe leg injury on the streets, Molly wandered in search of safety and eventually curled up on the porch of a private home in Blantyre. That’s where the homeowner, Sara, discovered her—resting in one of the dog beds outside.
Realizing Molly was badly hurt, Sara brought her to the BSPCA veterinary clinic. X-rays revealed that Molly had sustained fractures to her left ulna and radius some time ago. She had been managing the pain on her own, walking with difficulty on three legs.
During surgery, the veterinary team attempted to realign the fracture while Molly was under anesthesia. However, the tissue had contracted too much over time, making a full repair impossible. After trying plaster support for a week without success, the vets made the decision to amputate her front left leg to improve her quality of life.
Molly recovered quickly after surgery. She was soon up and moving comfortably, clearly relieved from the pain she had endured. During her stay at the clinic, she also received treatment for mange and was given high-protein food to help her regain strength.
As she recovered, Sara and her family grew attached to Molly and decided to adopt her. What began as a chance encounter turned into a new beginning—Molly found the perfect home by choosing just the right porch to rest on.
