Images of the poor cat with all its fur singed off, clumped and charred, and its legs burned down to the flesh have left many people heartbroken. It was reported that the cat, being playful, caught a bird, which enraged its owner. In a fit of anger, the owner doused the cat in kerosene and set it ablaze.

After the incident, the poor cat was taken to the Da Nang Dog and Cat Rescue Station, where it received intensive care. The haunting images of the small cat, barely alive, enduring excruciating burns, shook many to their core. The station provided regular updates, and people hoped for a miracle—but due to the severity of the burns, the cat couldn’t survive.

Many were devastated by the sight of the burned cat.

The staff at the rescue station shared the heartbreaking news on their personal page:

“This afternoon, I got a hotline call about a cat that had been burned all over. I couldn’t imagine the extent of the damage, and to make it worse—it was done by its own owner. Why didn’t they just end its suffering immediately instead of letting it burn alive? That thought kept tearing at me as I searched through veterinary texts, even international ones, desperate for a sliver of hope.

The cat whimpered all night, shifting slowly to ease the pain. It struggled to swallow syringe-fed porridge, and the stench of kerosene was so overwhelming it made me gag.

But… what we feared still came. Around 5 a.m., about an hour after I fed the cat, it began convulsing. Its head shook involuntarily, and its temperature dropped. Those heart-wrenching cries that animals make before death broke me: ‘Don’t go… Please hang on… You’ll get through this.’

But then the cat’s breath faded as it died in my arms. I’ve seen this too many times, yet it always hurts the same. The scent of kerosene still lingers in my nose—disgusting and heartbreaking. Thank you to everyone who cared and sent support. The rescue couldn’t give you the miracle we all wanted.

A sad weekend story—I just want to rest now.

I remembered what an old man who visited the shelter said yesterday, after looking around at every case: ‘No one is crueler than a human being.’

Online communities were devastated by the kitten’s death.

This brutal act may have been carried out in a moment of anger, but it cost an innocent animal its life. It’s not the first time people have expressed outrage at how pets are treated—with abuse, beatings, or psychological harm.

Have we truly failed to value the lives of the animals we keep beside us? Protecting animals doesn’t need grand gestures—it starts with empathy and love for the pets in our own homes. So that tragedies like this poor kitten’s will never happen again.
