Joshua – The Emaciated Dog Who Was Abandoned, Yet Still Believes in Love
A faint cry led Diana Chapa to an old wooden fence behind an abandoned home in Houston, Texas. When she peeked through a gap, her heart sank:
A dog so skinny his ribs were showing, his back hunched over a cold cement patio. No shelter. No food. And the house behind him… completely empty.
He had been abandoned.
Diana immediately called animal control, hoping someone would come to help. But days passed and no one came. Watching him grow weaker and weaker, she finally couldn’t take it anymore. Diana broke the gate herself and carried the dog to safety.
She named him Joshua.
Once home, Joshua was given food, water, a warm bed, and loving arms to hold him. He let out a deep sigh, as if to say: “I’m safe now.”
Neighbors later shared that Joshua had spent most of his life chained outside on that patio, never once stepping inside a house. His world was nothing but hard cement and loneliness.
But despite such cruelty, Joshua remained gentle and sweet. When Diana took him to the veterinary clinic where she works, he wagged his tail joyfully and showered everyone with affection. Even during exams and treatment, Joshua was nothing but grateful — a stark contrast to the fear most dogs feel at the vet.
Now, Joshua is slowly recovering. Once his health stabilizes, he will travel to New York, where Rescue Dogs Rock NYC will help him find a forever home.
From being starved and forgotten, Joshua has proven that love can heal all wounds. He deserves a new life — one filled with warmth, family, and no more days of abandonment.
