A 31-year-old man in Schenectady has been charged with a misdemeanor in connection with an animal cruelty investigation. He is accused of abandoning a female dog, later named Lavender, in a public area while the animal was injured.
Residents reported seeing the dog near Eastern Parkway and McClellan Street on Saturday. A police animal control officer responded the following day after being contacted for assistance.
According to police, the dog was underweight and had fractured teeth. One ear was missing, and it appeared to have been intentionally cut off. The dog also had severe injuries to its head and face.
Lavender was transported to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, where she is receiving medical care for infections, eye scarring, and other health issues.
The man has been charged under Agriculture and Markets Law Article 26 Section 353, which covers overdriving, torturing, injuring animals, and failure to provide proper sustenance.
