Heartbreaking: 9-Year-Old Dog Rolo Found Tied to Railing With Note Begging for Care

A nine-year-old pit bull terrier named Rolo is receiving medical care and comfort at the BC SPCA after being discovered tied to a railing in downtown Prince George. A note attached to his collar heartbreakingly asked that someone take care of him.

A Good Samaritan quickly brought Rolo to the BC SPCA’s North Cariboo District animal centre, where staff rushed him to an emergency veterinarian.

“Poor Rolo has a lot going on health-wise,” said Kristen Sumner, manager of the centre. “The vet examined the large, protruding mass on his leg and sedated him for a biopsy. As he was examining his teeth, three fell out, and it was also determined that Rolo had ringworm on his face and legs. He was underweight as well.”

Fortunately, the mass on Rolo’s leg was found to be benign. He is scheduled for surgery to remove it and undergo dental procedures, along with treatments for ringworm and a specialized feeding plan.

Despite his challenges, Rolo has shown remarkable resilience and spirit.

“Rolo has been through so much, but he continues to find joy every day,” Sumner said. “He greets staff with excitement each morning, loves his breakfast, and has the energy of a puppy during walks.”

Staff describe Rolo as calm, gentle, and affectionate, even during baths, treatments, and medications. “His big eyes win you over, and he leans into affection with all of his body weight,” Sumner added.

Once Rolo fully recovers from surgery, he will be available for adoption into a loving forever home.
