Heartwarming Rescue of Two Dogs Amid Floods in Huế
In November 2023, a video capturing the dramatic rescue of two dogs trapped in rising floodwaters in Huế went viral on social media. Within just two days of being uploaded, the clip attracted over 3 million views, more than 200,000 reactions, and thousands of comments filled with compassion and emotion.
In the video, the two dogs bark desperately the moment they hear the sound of a boat passing by, as if crying out for help. One of them quickly swam toward the rescuers and was pulled onto the boat, shivering uncontrollably after being submerged in water all night. The other dog, trapped inside a warehouse, was unable to escape. Without hesitation, a man paddled closer, pushed open the door, and brought the dog to safety.
The sight of both dogs trembling yet gazing gratefully at their rescuers touched countless viewers’ hearts. Many netizens commented: “They didn’t just rescue dogs, they saved two lives that were on the brink of despair.”
The woman behind the viral video, Ms. Khánh Hòa from Phú Thượng Ward, Huế City, shared that the rescue happened on November 15. At that time, the water level in her neighborhood was waist-deep. Together with her husband and a friend, she rowed a boat to check on their warehouse equipment. As they passed by a construction material storage area about 500 meters away, they suddenly heard frantic barking.
“My friend rowed closer, and one dog swam out immediately. The other was stuck inside, so my husband forced the door open and carried it out. When we brought them home, they were starving and freezing, so I fed them and kept them warm,” Ms. Hòa recounted.
She later contacted the dogs’ owner, who had been keeping them to guard the warehouse, and planned to return them the following day.
To her surprise, the video she recorded just for memory’s sake spread rapidly online. “I believe anyone in that situation would have done the same. Still, reading so many kind and encouraging comments truly warmed my heart,” she said.
In the midst of devastating floods, this simple yet compassionate act not only saved two small lives but also reignited faith in the deep bond between humans and animals.
