According to the Daily Star, the heartbreaking incident took place in the city of Kars, northeastern Turkey, on February 25. Shared images show a mother dog sitting silently beside her motionless puppy by the roadside, her face filled with sorrow.
Perhaps not yet accepting that her puppy had passed, the mother dog was seen gently nudging the little one with her paw, as if trying to wake it. At times, she lowered her head to give it soft kisses, hoping to express her maternal love and bring it back.
Despite all her efforts, the puppy showed no signs of life. Yet the mother dog didn’t give up. She kept looking around anxiously, as if searching for help from passersby, while trying to protect her baby’s lifeless body. Many people stopped to pet the grieving mother, hoping to comfort her—everyone was heartbroken, knowing they couldn’t bring the puppy back.
Witnesses said the puppy had been hit by a car while running after its mother across the street. It remains unclear whether the driver stopped or if a kind passerby helped move the body to the roadside. The mother dog then stayed beside her puppy for hours, refusing to leave.
After receiving reports, local city council staff arrived at the scene and removed the puppy’s body. Only then did the mother dog walk away. Since that day, she has not been seen again, and no one knows where she went. Local authorities reportedly have no plans to investigate further.
Unable to believe her pup had died, the mother dog kept nudging it in vain.
Dogs are known for their loyalty and deep emotional bonds—not only with their own kind but also with humans. Just days ago, Chinese social media was moved by a viral video of an old dog tearfully saying goodbye to its owner, seemingly aware it was going away for the final time.
