Back in February, a traveler driving past a small Romanian village noticed what looked like a little ball of fluff curled up beside the highway. It was freezing outside — and when the passerby looked closer, they realized the “fluff” was actually a tiny dog, lying all alone in the cold grass.
They quickly snapped a photo and posted it on Facebook, pleading for someone nearby to help.
When Sonia Antonela Costas, founder of Sonia’s Safe Animal Haven, saw the post, she didn’t hesitate for a second. She grabbed her keys, jumped into her car, and drove straight to the location.
As soon as she pulled over, she spotted the dog standing in the field — small, fluffy, and shivering. But the moment he saw Sonia, his tail began to wag.
“He was so happy, and he started to kiss me,” Sonia told The Dodo. “Of course, I started crying — like always.”
Sonia scooped the pup into her arms, promising that he would never be cold or alone again. She named him Fox, for his reddish fur and curious eyes.
Back at her rescue center — which she runs out of her home — Sonia began carefully removing hundreds of ticks tangled in his coat. The next day, she took Fox to the vet, where he received a full check-up, vaccines, and a clean bill of health.
Finally safe, Fox began to blossom. He quickly bonded with the other rescue dogs and turned into the happiest little ball of energy.
“He is the happiest dog we have,” Sonia wrote in a post about him.
Now, Fox is healthy, full of life, and ready for his forever home. Sonia believes he would thrive with a young, active family who can match his joyful spirit and endless curiosity.
Until that perfect family comes along, Fox continues to brighten Sonia’s days — a little reminder of how love and kindness can change everything.
