Abandoned Injured French Bulldog Fights for Her Life After Being Left in a Box
Just days before Christmas, a young French bulldog was found abandoned in a cardboard box outside the Charleston Animal Society in South Carolina. Weak and suffering from a severe prolapsed rectum, the 1–3-year-old pup — now nicknamed Betty — was in critical condition.
Rescuers believe three people in a pickup truck were involved in her abandonment. Shockingly, she was later found tied to a tree the next morning before undergoing emergency, life-saving surgery.
Today, Betty is in stable condition under the care of the shelter’s surgical team. She’s eating well, active, and showing her fighting spirit — though her injury could return, which may require more extensive surgery.
The Charleston Animal Society is raising funds to cover Betty’s ongoing treatment and to help other abused and abandoned animals in their care. Thanks to matching donations from the Hank & Laurel Greer and McDaniel Family Foundation, contributions made through the end of 2022 will be doubled, up to $20,000.
“It’s illegal to abandon an animal,” the shelter reminded the public. “If you know someone struggling to care for their pet, please help them find the resources they need — there are always alternatives to leaving them injured and alone.”
