rincipal Faces Jail Time After Neglect Leads to Dog’s Leg Amputation – Public Outrage Erupts

Rosa Martinez, 57, a principal at a private school in Houston, Texas (USA), is facing up to two years in prison on charges of animal cruelty after bringing her dog to an animal care center in a severely neglected state—suffering from a rotting back leg and extreme malnutrition.

The small dog, named Rainy, had to have one of her legs amputated due to a serious infection. Authorities also found two other dogs in Martinez’s home, both in similarly poor condition, suffering from malnutrition and severe infections.

Charges: Rosa Martinez is facing two counts of animal cruelty charges for the injuries Rainy (right) suffered for which the maximum punishment is two years in prison

Despite the accusations of neglect, Martinez defended herself, claiming she was “too busy with work” to care for the animals, adding, “I don’t think I did anything wrong.”

If convicted, Martinez could face up to two years in prison. It remains unclear whether she will retain her position as principal following this widely condemned incident.
