Dying Dog Found Dumped In Trash Bag Behind Tesco — RSPCA Seeks ‘Heartless’ Owner

Dying Dog Found Dumped in Trash Bag Sparks RSPCA Investigation

The RSPCA is urgently appealing for information after a severely abused young dog was found dying inside a tied black bin bag behind a Tesco supermarket in Birmingham.

The heartbreaking discovery was made around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday in Church Road, Yardley, where the six-month-old bull breed — possibly an XL Bully — was dumped next to a pile of rubbish.

When found, the puppy was emaciated, covered in mange, and unable to stand due to multiple broken bones — including his neck, back, legs, and ribs. He was also soaked in his own waste, too weak to move.

The dog was rushed to RSPCA Birmingham Animal Hospital, but tragically, he died on the treatment table before vets could save him.

RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Beccie Doherty, who attended the scene, described it as one of the most harrowing cases she’s witnessed:

“This poor dog was terrified and in pain. It’s sickening that someone chose to treat an animal in this heartless way — then simply threw him away like trash.”

Despite their best efforts, the veterinary team could not revive the dog. His condition was so severe that it was difficult even to confirm his breed.

The RSPCA is now pleading with the public to help identify the person responsible for what they called a “sickening and heartless” act of cruelty.

This case highlights what the RSPCA calls a growing animal welfare crisis. In 2023 alone, the charity received over 72,000 reports of animal neglect and abandonment — the highest number in three years.

“We’ve rescued animals for over 200 years, and we’ll keep going as long as we’re needed,” said Dermot Murphy, RSPCA Inspectorate Commissioner. “But we can’t do it without public support.”

The organization is urging animal lovers to join their Winter Rescue campaign by donating to help rescue teams provide food, shelter, and urgent medical care to animals suffering from neglect and cruelty.
