A Dog Hit and Left for Dead Sparks Outrage and Hope in Hanoi
Early on May 20, a heartbreaking scene unfolded on Võ Chí Công street in Hanoi, Vietnam: a dog, struck by a vehicle, lay barely alive on the roadside. The incident, witnessed and shared by MC Nguyễn Minh Hà, quickly spread across Vietnamese social media, stirring public empathy and concern.
“Around 4:30 AM, on the way to the airport, my family saw the dog get hit by a car. It struggled to crawl to the roadside. When I passed by later, it was still there, barely breathing,” Minh Hà wrote.
Attempts were made to find the dog’s owner by asking neighbors and calling rescue centers. Despite being in obvious pain, the dog was unresponsive to food or water.
Thanks to Minh Hà’s viral post and efforts from the online pet lover community, help finally arrived. A volunteer from Hanoi Pet Rescue brought the dog in for treatment. The veterinary team determined that while no bones were broken, the dog had spinal trauma and would need further care.
However, what shocked the public even more was a cold-hearted proposal made during the incident. A passerby on a bicycle asked to take the injured dog—not to rescue it, but to slaughter and serve it to construction workers. Minh Hà, shocked and enraged, confronted the woman, who only left after being firmly told off.
“She asked for the dog to give to the workers to eat—while it was still alive. I was so furious I couldn’t help but yell at her,” Minh Hà shared.
Despite such chilling moments, the dog’s story ended on a hopeful note. It was saved, treated, and surrounded by compassion—a powerful reminder of both cruelty and kindness that coexist in our world.
