Two Injured Dogs Rescued After Being Abandoned in Leicestershire
Two injured and malnourished dogs have been rescued in what RSPCA inspectors described as a “heartbreaking” case after being found abandoned on a country lane in Leicestershire.
The pair of lurchers were discovered by a member of the public on Longhedge Lane in Orston, near Bottesford, on the evening of Monday, February 3. Both dogs were in poor condition, with untreated wounds and visible signs of neglect.
The male lurcher, later named Doug, is estimated to be between one and two years old and was found in the worst condition. He was suffering from a swollen leg, multiple wounds, and severe malnourishment. The female, approximately five years old, was identified through her microchip as Jazz.
Both dogs were immediately taken to an emergency vet, where they received antibiotics, pain relief, and treatment for their injuries before being transferred to an RSPCA animal centre for ongoing care.
Ella Carpenter, manager at the RSPCA Radcliffe Animal Centre, said:
“Both dogs are currently receiving veterinary care for numerous wounds, pressure sores, and their overall skin condition. They are malnourished, especially Doug, and their state suggests they had been neglected for some time.”
RSPCA Inspector Kate Burris, who is leading the investigation, added:
“It’s heartbreaking to see the condition both these dogs had been left in — and then to be abandoned at night in such a remote area. The only way to describe their condition is that they were a complete mess.”
The RSPCA has now launched an investigation into how the two dogs came to be abandoned and is appealing to the public for any information.
