Collapsed in hot tar, the dog lay dying for hours — until a miracle rescue

A dog in Taiwan was recently rescued by a group of animal lovers after being found trapped in an abandoned asphalt factory. When discovered, the poor dog had been lying motionless for a long time, barely clinging to life from hunger and thirst.

The rescue was led by Hsu Wen-liang, co-founder of a local animal sanctuary, after a factory worker reported seeing the dog stuck inside. When rescuers tried to approach, the dog reacted aggressively, barking and struggling — but they all knew it was only because of the immense pain it was in.

The black dog was covered in hardened asphalt, unable to move. Despite its resistance, the volunteers were determined to save it. They named the dog Shan Fu, meaning “kind and lucky.”

Using cooking oil, olive oil, and flour, the volunteers worked for hours to carefully remove the sticky asphalt from Shan Fu’s body. At the same time, another rescuer gave the weak and exhausted dog food and water to regain its strength.

Bit by bit, the thick tar was peeled away, and Shan Fu slowly began to return to its natural appearance. The process was long and exhausting, but the results were nothing short of incredible.

Mr. Hsu shared that this wasn’t the first time he had rescued a dog in such a condition. He had previously saved another asphalt-covered dog, naming it Shan En — but sadly, that dog passed away shortly after.

This time, the rescuers hope Shan Fu will have a much luckier and happier life than Shan En, now that he’s been given a second chance at life.
