Late one evening, a heartbreaking scene unfolded outside the KHS Admissions Lobby. Security cameras captured a vehicle without a visible license plate pulling up at 7:30 p.m. The passenger stepped out, gently placing a small puppy on top of an Amazon delivery bag before driving away. The tiny pup, now lovingly named Cowboy, was left alone through the night, injured and in pain.
When staff discovered him the next morning, Cowboy had not moved at all—his eyes spoke of suffering, yet also of hope. Veterinary examinations revealed that his front left leg had sustained a severe injury. X-rays showed a complete fracture of his right humerus near the elbow, likely caused by blunt-force trauma. Thankfully, there were no signs of road rash, which suggests he had not been struck by a vehicle.
We do not know exactly how Cowboy was hurt, nor who abandoned him. What we do know is that this little fighter endured tremendous pain with incredible strength. At KHS, we choose to believe the best in people. Perhaps his injury was a tragic accident, and the individual who left him simply didn’t know what else to do.
Now, Cowboy is safe, receiving the medical care and comfort he so desperately needs. With time, treatment, and love, we believe he will heal—not only physically, but emotionally as well. Cowboy’s story is a powerful reminder of resilience, hope, and the difference compassion can make in the life of an innocent animal.
If Cowboy’s bravery has touched your heart, please consider supporting his recovery—whether through adoption, fostering, or donations to help cover his medical care. Together, we can give Cowboy the happy, pain-free life he deserves.
