Abused and Painted Green, This Defeated 4-Month-Old Puppy Needs a Miracle

Painted Green and Covered in Sores, This 4-Month-Old Puppy Desperately Needs a Lifeline

At just four months old, a tiny puppy arrived at the California City Animal Shelter in California City on Sunday—painted green and defeated.

The shelter staff describe her as sweet, but heartbroken. She’s barely started her life, yet she already bears the weight of trauma most animals should never know. Covered in sores and visibly in pain, she stands as a silent cry for help.

The reason for her strange green color? Dog fighters often spray paint bait dogs to mark them for brutal training fights. It’s a chilling sign that she may have been used—or was about to be used—as a bait dog in an illegal dog-fighting ring.

To make matters worse, the paint on her fur is likely toxic, and could be the cause of her open sores and skin damage.

Because the shelter does not have the resources for veterinary treatment, they’ve labeled her “rescue only”, meaning she can only be released to a registered rescue group that can get her the urgent medical help she needs.

This little pup still has a chance—but she needs it now.

Please share her story. The more people who see her, the better her odds of being rescued by someone who can give her a second chance.

“She’s just a baby. She hasn’t even had a chance to live.” — California City Animal Shelter staff
