A once-abandoned pit bull has found a brand-new purpose in life—becoming the loving “foster mom” to hundreds of rescued puppies.
Back in 2010, Mia Anelli, a member of the nonprofit Insight Animal Rescue in California, saved a pit bull named Cher from a high-kill shelter. At first, Mia simply planned to find Cher a forever home. But instead, Cher became an irreplaceable part of the rescue mission itself.
Whenever new dogs arrived from shelters, frightened and uncertain, Cher naturally stepped into the role of comforter and caretaker. She would nuzzle them, play gently, and help them settle in. Even though she has never had puppies of her own, Cher shows an extraordinary maternal instinct—sharing food and toys, and showering the newcomers with affectionate licks.
Mia recalls:
“Maybe it’s because Cher herself was once rescued, so she feels that deep connection. I never expected her to become such a foster mom, but the dogs we save always respond to her gentle paw taps, her loving licks, and the way she makes them feel safe.”
Today, Cher is far more than a survivor—she’s a symbol of compassion, strength, and second chances, proving that love can truly transform lives.
