Abandoned, Injured, and Alone — But This Dog’s Life Changed Thanks to One Kind Stranger
When Danielle Huset looked out onto the street near her home in Atascocita, Houston, on April 23, she never expected to find a wounded, rain-soaked dog limping alone in the flowerbeds.
He was skinny, wet from recent storms, and clearly in pain. Huset, 25, felt immediate heartbreak. “I was really concerned and upset,” she told Newsweek. “He was scared but curious. I could tell he was looking for help.”
Despite the dog’s hesitation, Danielle saw something in his eyes—a silent plea for kindness.
She nicknamed him Buddy, and from the moment she met him, she set out to help. She posted photos of him in local Facebook groups for lost pets, made flyers, knocked on neighbors’ doors, and reached out to anyone who might recognize him. One neighbor mentioned they’d seen him roaming a few days earlier.
But no one came forward.
That night, Danielle sat outside for hours keeping Buddy company. She left food, water, and even opened her garage door in case he wanted shelter. He stayed close, choosing instead to curl up in the grass and flowerbed.
In a final attempt to reach more people, Danielle posted a video of Buddy wandering aimlessly on TikTok. The video went viral, quickly gaining over 240,000 views. Strangers reached out with offers to help.
The next morning, Buddy wandered off again—but this time, someone else picked him up and brought him to a nearby shelter. Danielle prepared to foster him herself if he wasn’t claimed by April 27.
But fate had a different plan.
Long Way Home Adoptables, a no-kill rescue, stepped in just in time. They took Buddy into their care and found him a foster home where he would begin his journey to recovery and love.
Danielle continues to update followers on Buddy’s progress through her TikTok (@daniellehuset), including a touching video of him leaving the shelter with his new foster family.
