A woman rescued a 3-legged dog… but had no idea he would one day save her life

5 years ago, Ms. Nguyen Thi Sang (in Can Tho, Vietnam) took care of an abandoned three-legged dog. Unexpectedly, 2 years later, this dog saved her from death.

In recent days, a touching story of “saving an animal, the animal repays” has been spreading on social media. The main character in the above kind story is Ms. Nguyen Thi Sang (50 years old, living in Qui Lan 6 Hamlet, Thanh Quoi Commune, Vinh Thanh District, Can Tho City,Vietnam), a woman who took care of a dog with only 3 legs and received a very heartwarming ending.

Ms. Sang said that about 5 years ago, on a rainy day, when she saw a puppy lying in the grass, making a few weak “uh, uh” sounds, she quickly brought the puppy into the house to dry it, covered it with a blanket to warm it, and then fed the poor dog milk.

“At that time, it was only as small as two hands, its whole body was soaked, and it was shivering. Looking around and not seeing anyone, I brought it into the house and have been raising it ever since. Later, I found out that it was abandoned because it was born with only three legs, and the owner was afraid of bad luck so he threw it away,” Ms. Sang confided.

Since taking care of the poor dog, Mrs. Sang’s life has changed a lot. Because her husband works far away and her children are married off, she has been alone at home taking care of her father-in-law who is over 100 years old. Having a little dog as a companion helps Mrs. Sang’s house feel less lonely. She named it Lu.

“Raising Lu was like taking care of a baby. When she didn’t have teeth yet, I had to breastfeed her. When she was a little older, she learned to walk because she only had three legs. I put my hands on her front legs so she could hop along. It took her more than two months to be able to walk,” said Ms. Sang.

The older Lu grew, the more intelligent and attached to Mrs. Sang. Whether she was sewing clothes, working in the fields, or picking water spinach, Lu was always by her side.

About 3 years ago, Lu was 2 years old. One afternoon, while Ms. Sang was cutting water spinach in the pond, she suddenly felt dizzy and fainted. Discovering that her owner was in trouble, Lu stood on the bank and barked fiercely, as if calling for help. Luckily, a salt seller passing by saw Lu “calling for help” and stopped.

“When I fainted and lay down in the vegetable field, I heard Lu barking for help. Then I heard the salt seller asking if I was okay, then he carried me to the shore and waited for me to wake up before leaving. When I opened my eyes, I saw Lu sitting next to me, her eyes filled with tears, and the salt seller kept saying, the dog is so smart, without it, I would die without anyone knowing,” Ms. Sang recalled.

Ms. Sang makes a living by sewing clothes. She has two hectares of rice fields and a pond for growing water spinach. Although she still worries about food, clothing, rice, and money, no matter how hard life is, Ms. Sang will not sell her beloved dog (Photo: Bao Ky).

Since that day, the relationship between Mrs. Sang and the little dog became even closer. She considered Lu as her own child, and Lu always followed her owner without leaving her side.

“I have a congenital heart disease and often get dizzy and faint, so Lu is always by my side. If I don’t see my owner for a long time, Lu will bark at me until I respond,” said Ms. Sang.

In addition, the 5-year-old dog is very smart, absolutely does not eat junk food or destroy anyone’s belongings. Every time the neighbor’s poultry strays into the yard, Lu just barks and chases them away.

Lu’s cleverness and understanding made many people aware of her and they offered to buy her back, but Ms. Sang refused to sell her. She said: “There was a man selling ornamental birds who offered to buy Lu back for 3 million VND, but I refused immediately. Even though I was poor, no matter how much money I was offered, I would not sell her. I consider her a relative, and if she is a relative, how could I sell her?”
