Dog Found Bleeding and Abandoned on New Year’s Eve Beach — Rescuers Say She Barely Survived
What began as a joyful New Year’s Eve in Long Beach, California, quickly turned into a rescue mission for a group of good Samaritans who spotted a heart-wrenching scene on the beach: a small, injured dog, barely clinging to life.
She was found abandoned in the sand, near the boardwalk, bleeding from both eyes and suffering from what appeared to be severe head trauma.
“No one is sure what happened to this little girl,” wrote Chris L. Hawkes, who shared her story on Facebook in an appeal to the community. “She is in dire need of help to ensure a safe recovery.”
The dog — a 3-year-old female terrier mix — was initially named Tilsy, later changed to Myla. According to the post, she was discovered on New Year’s Eve, “spotted near lifeless,” by a group of strangers who immediately stepped in.
They wrapped her in a sweater and waited by her side until Animal Control Officers arrived. Their fast response may have saved her life.
“Something Unimaginable Happened That Night”
“We don’t know exactly what happened,” shared CUDDLY, a nonprofit fundraising platform helping to cover Myla’s medical costs. “But on New Year’s Eve, Myla suffered something unimaginable — blunt force trauma that left her bleeding and disoriented, abandoned on a cold boardwalk.”
The damage was extensive. Vets determined Myla had suffered significant trauma to her head, causing damage to both eyes, which would require stents and sutures — if the eyes could even be saved. There was a real risk she could lose her vision permanently.
Despite the trauma, Myla is now in the care of compassionate professionals, and her fight to survive continues. Her rescuers and medical team remain hopeful — and grateful to those who acted quickly.
