Mandai Mama’s Fight Against Cancer — A Story of Compassion and Hope
In a world where fundraising campaigns are launched for everything from birthdays to dreams, this one stands apart — it’s about saving a life.
This life belongs to Mandai, a gentle stray dog under the care of Causes for Animals in Singapore (CAS), a non-profit organization dedicated to helping vulnerable and homeless animals.
A Routine Program Turned Into a Life-Or-Death Fight
Mandai first came into the care of CAS through their Trap-Neuter-Return-Manage (TNRM) program — a community initiative where stray dogs are sterilized, given medical checkups, and provided with food, without being removed from their familiar environment.
But what began as a routine check quickly turned serious. A small lump appeared on Mandai’s snout, which gradually grew to the point where it hindered her ability to eat or drink properly.
CAS made the compassionate decision to bring her in for closer examination at Animal World Veterinary Clinic.
The News No One Wanted to Hear
After a series of diagnostic scans, the veterinarians confirmed a heartbreaking reality:
“The CT scan of Mandai Mama has revealed that the growth is inoperable and the cancer has spread. She will only need palliative care for the time being.”
Though the tumor cannot be removed, Mandai’s journey is now focused on comfort and dignity.
A Peaceful Place to Rest
Mandai is currently being cared for at Gentle Paws, a shelter that provides love and comfort to senior and terminally ill dogs.
Though her future remains uncertain, one thing is clear — Mandai will not be alone. She is surrounded by people who are committed to making her days as peaceful and joyful as possible.
Her Story Lives On
Mandai Mama’s story is not just about illness — it’s about compassion, second chances, and the quiet heroism of animal welfare workers.
Every day she continues to inspire kindness, reminding us that even the smallest lives can leave a lasting mark.
