A young tabby cat is lucky to be alive after being rescued from a dumpster in Dorchester on Sunday by Boston Animal Control.
Now named Rooster, the 1-year-old male cat was found with serious injuries believed to be intentionally caused. He was immediately transported to MSPCA-Angell for emergency care.
“Rooster has a broken jaw, and his right eye was so badly damaged that it had to be removed,” said Mike Keiley, Director of Adoption Centers and Programs at MSPCA-Angell.
“As it stands, it’s one of the worst jaw fractures we’ve seen in a cat so young.”
With no collar or identification tags, officials have not been able to locate an owner. Rooster is now recovering at MSPCA’s Angell Animal Medical Center, where he is being monitored closely.
Veterinarians have scheduled surgery to repair his jaw, which will be essential to restore his ability to eat comfortably and avoid long-term pain.
Despite the trauma, Rooster has been described as calm and resilient—slowly beginning to trust the people around him as he rests and receives care.
The case remains under investigation, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Boston Animal Control.
