Rhett, a pit bull mix, is now fighting for a second chance at life.

On May 16, the Kirkland Police Department and animal control officers in Clark Mills, New York, discovered Rhett in a heartbreaking state—emaciated, too weak to stand, and curled up alone in an abandoned apartment. It appeared he had been left behind by his former owner to die.

“Rhett was extremely malnourished and so weak he couldn’t even stand. We immediately rushed him to the vet,”
— said the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, which took over the case.

Only Days from Death

According to WKTV, the team at Clinton Pet Vet provided emergency care to Rhett right after the rescue. He required an emergency blood transfusion, treatment for severe malnutrition, anemia, and a heavy flea infestation.

Though he is now safe, Rhett is still in critical condition. Rescuers believe that had they arrived just a few days later, it would have been too late.

Abandoned to Die — But Not Forgotten

Rhett is now receiving intensive care under the watch of a dedicated rescue team. However, his medical expenses are mounting, and financial support is urgently needed.
