A poor little puppy was born with a congenital disability, and the vet recommended euthanasia to spare it from a life of struggle—but its owner refused, choosing instead to believe in a miracle.
When the puppy named Nubby was born, it was clear that he had no front legs. The vet believed euthanasia would be the kindest option, fearing that Nubby would struggle to survive and thrive like the rest of the litter. Though his mother showed no sign of rejecting him, raising a puppy with such a condition would be extremely difficult.
Refusing to Give Up
Nubby’s caretaker, Lou Robinson, and her husband Mark, from Houston, Texas, were told Nubby wouldn’t live long. But Lou, a longtime animal rescuer and founder of Warriors Educate About Rescue, had other ideas. She believed Nubby deserved a chance.
Lou and Mark committed to caring for Nubby around the clock, bottle-feeding him and keeping him close, making sure he never had to fight for attention or nourishment.
A Rocky Road
Nubby slowly began to grow stronger. He opened his eyes and let out his first cries. But then things took a turn. He lost interest in food and began breathing through bubbles in his nose.
The vet diagnosed a problem with his esophagus—a pocket was causing milk to get stuck. Nubby was given fluids and special care, but his future remained uncertain. The vets couldn’t predict how severe the issue might become as he grew.
A Miracle in the Making
Now, Nubby is five months old. Though his journey hasn’t been easy, his strength and resilience have stunned everyone. His human family hopes that Nubby’s story will be a reminder to young people everywhere:
“No matter how different you are—it’s okay. You still belong.”
