Called to Help 2 Helpless Puppies, Rescuer Finds 14 More Waiting in the Shadows

Sixteen Miracles: Two Pregnant Dogs Rescued From a Harsh Los Angeles Park Just in Time

Last month, California-based rescuer Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, received a call that shook her to the core. Having saved countless stray dogs across Los Angeles County, Hall thought she had seen it all. But this case was different.

“Two little souls were abandoned in one of the harshest places imaginable — a massive park near Dodger Stadium in LA,” Hall later shared. “They were left with nothing but a thin blanket. That’s it.”

Left Alone in a Dangerous Wilderness

While Dodger Stadium buzzes with life, cheers, and entertainment, the surrounding park tells a different story — one of isolation, predators, and danger for vulnerable animals.

For weeks, two young dogs had been hiding deep within the unforgiving terrain. Hungry, dehydrated, and terrified, they clung to survival while coyotes prowled nearby.

“Coyotes circled them more than once — this is not an exaggeration,” Hall recalled. “People literally had to fight them off to keep these girls alive.”

The pair, later named Chantilly and Cheyenne, had been abandoned for at least two weeks before neighbors finally heard their desperate cries echoing from the thick bushes.

“Thank God someone started bringing food and water,” Hall said. “Because without that, they would not have made it.”

A Race Against Time

When Hall arrived at the park, she immediately realized the scale of the challenge. The place where the dogs were hiding was dangerously steep and inaccessible.

“I couldn’t even carry traps up the mountain road,” she said. “So I set them below and threw food upward, praying they would come down. And by some miracle … one by one, they did.”

Moments later, both dogs were safely inside their traps.

“The moment those trap doors shut, we broke down in tears,” Hall admitted. “The isolation, the hopelessness, the sheer fight to live — it was all behind them now. For the first time, they were safe.”

An Unexpected Revelation

Hall rushed Chantilly and Cheyenne straight to Camino Pet Hospital. There, she received life-changing news: both girls were pregnant.

“My heart just sank,” Hall said. “Not only had they been trying to survive out there on their own, but their unborn babies were depending on them, too. To think of them giving birth out there in the middle of nowhere, alone and unsafe, is unbearable.”

Sixteen Little Miracles

Thanks to Hall’s swift rescue and the help of Second Leash On Life foster care provider Alix Levy Smith, Chantilly and Cheyenne were welcomed into warm, loving foster homes. There, instead of facing predators and starvation, they were finally able to prepare for motherhood in safety.

One month later, Chantilly gave birth to nine healthy puppies. Just a week after that, Cheyenne welcomed five more tiny lives.

“The day I thought I was saving just two lives … I actually saved sixteen,” Hall wrote. “Sixteen beating hearts. Sixteen stories of survival. Sixteen little miracles.”

From Fear to Family

Today, Chantilly and Cheyenne are thriving mothers, doting on their puppies in comfort and peace. Their foster families shower them with love while they raise their little ones.

In just a few months, once the puppies are old enough, all sixteen dogs will be looking for their forever homes. For now, though, these resilient moms are simply enjoying a life they once could never have dreamed of.

“As I watch them snuggle, give sweet puppy kisses, and take their very first breaths of safety and love,” Hall reflected, “I can’t help but think: This is what rescue is all about. From desperation to hope. From fear to family.

And thanks to one rescuer’s determination, an entire pack of dogs now has a future filled with love.
