ENFIELD, CT — Enfield’s Animal Control Department has opened an investigation after a young pit bull was discovered this week with visible injuries, raising concerns that she may have been deliberately abandoned in town.
According to officials, the dog—a female pit bull terrier estimated to be 3 to 4 years old—was found with multiple puncture wounds to her face and head. The injuries suggested she had endured significant trauma, though the exact circumstances remain unclear.
“She came to us scared, injured, and clearly in pain,” Enfield Animal Control said in a statement. “We cannot say for certain yet what caused her wounds, but we are looking into whether she was abandoned after being hurt.”
The pit bull was rushed to a veterinary hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and stabilized. Thankfully, she has since been released from medical care and is now recovering under close observation.
For now, animal control officers are working to determine whether the dog had an owner and, if so, why she was left behind. If no owner comes forward, officials confirmed that the dog will eventually be placed up for adoption, giving her a new chance at life in a loving home.
The department also used the opportunity to remind residents about the importance of seeking proper help for pets in need. “Abandoning an injured animal is never the answer,” the statement continued. “There are resources available for those who cannot care for their pets, and it is always better to surrender an animal safely rather than leave them to suffer.”
While the investigation continues, the young pit bull has already touched the hearts of local staff and community members. Animal advocates are hopeful that, once fully healed, she will find a family willing to give her the care, safety, and affection she deserves.
