Trapped in Tar: Helpless Dog Struggles to Breathe With Only Mouth Above the Surface

Dog Rescued After Falling Into Boiling Asphalt in Thailand

A dog in Thailand was saved just in time after falling into a pool of hot, sticky asphalt.

The female dog, later named Mali, had been wandering around an industrial estate in Nakhon Nayok when she stepped onto a thick layer of asphalt carelessly dumped into the environment. The light-brown dog quickly became trapped — her paws stuck fast, her body glued down, until she collapsed and was left with only her mouth above the surface to gasp for air.

Local resident Supatra Baisri, 30, was shocked to discover the desperate animal slowly sinking.
“I couldn’t step onto the asphalt myself because I would have been stuck too,” he said. “I couldn’t even reach the dog with a stick to try to help her.”

Supatra immediately called emergency services, who rushed to the scene with heavy equipment. Rescuers used a digger to carefully lift the dog out, while nearby factory workers soaked her in gasoline to dissolve the tar and prevent severe damage to her skin and fur.

The dramatic rescue lasted more than two hours. Finally, Mali was freed and taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment.

One of the veterinarians who cared for her said:
“People must be much more careful about how they dispose of waste like this. It can cause terrible harm to animals. If no one had found Mali in time, she would not have survived.”

Today, Mali is safe — a living reminder of how human negligence can nearly cost innocent lives, and how compassion can turn tragedy into survival.
