From Bermuda To New York: The Incredible Journey Of Frankie The Cat
Recently, staff at an Amazon warehouse in Long Island, New York, discovered a surprise guest: a fluffy cat tucked safely beneath one of their delivery trucks. For weeks, workers offered him food and watched over him. When it became clear the cat had no intention of leaving, they called in local animal rescuer John Debacker.
Using food as bait, Debacker carefully coaxed the cat out and, as always, scanned for a microchip. He assumed the feline belonged to someone nearby. But the scanner revealed something jaw-dropping: the cat was registered in Bermuda — more than 700 miles away.
“I was shocked,” Debacker told The Dodo.
Meet Frankie — the “purr machine”
With the help of the Bermuda SPCA, Debacker uncovered the cat’s name: Frankie. A vet confirmed he was around 15 years old. Despite everything, Frankie was gentle, affectionate, and constantly purring.
“He’s a very sweet cat,” Debacker said. “He’s a purr machine.”
A true globe-trotter
As Debacker connected with rescues worldwide, Frankie’s story unfolded like an adventure novel.
-
Frankie was born in the United Kingdom.
-
🇧🇲 He moved to Bermuda, where he lived for several years.
-
🇹🇨 Later, he was sent to a family in Turks and Caicos, though they eventually had to give him up.
-
🇺🇸 Frankie then traveled to South Carolina, only to be surrendered to a shelter.
- 🗽In 2017, a New York–based rescue pulled him from that shelter and brought him north, where he’s lived ever since.
Given his astonishing travels, rescuers affectionately nicknamed him “Mr. Worldwide.”
A well-deserved forever home
Now safe at Last Chance Animal Rescue, Frankie is finally ready to settle down. After years of being passed from place to place, this world traveler deserves a quiet, loving home where he can enjoy his golden years in peace.
