Hope Amid Pain: Street Dog in Thailand Left Fighting for Survival With Painful Skin Disease

Last month, the WVS veterinary team received an urgent call from a small private vet clinic about a little stray dog facing enormous struggles.

This dog, later named Ricado, had been found in heartbreaking condition by a kind tourist, who couldn’t ignore his suffering and rushed him to the nearest clinic. Sadly, the local vets were unsure how to proceed — Ricado’s skin disease was far more severe than anything they usually encountered.

That’s when they turned to us at the WVS Jeanne Marchig International Training Centre in Chiang Mai. Without hesitation, our team arranged his transport and prepared to give Ricado the care he so desperately needed.

Upon arrival, our experienced veterinarians quickly diagnosed him with severe pyoderma — a painful bacterial skin infection, most likely triggered by parasites and made worse by the harsh realities of street life. His tiny body was covered in sores, his fur patchy, and his skin inflamed.

Despite his fragile state, Ricado showed us the strength of his spirit. He allowed our vets to gently examine him, as if he knew he was finally in safe hands.

Ricado’s treatment will be long and challenging. He requires weeks of intensive medical care, medicated baths, antibiotics, and constant monitoring. Further lab tests are underway, which may reveal additional complications. His overall health is poor, and recovery will not be easy — but we are determined to give him every chance to heal.

Sadly, Ricado’s story is not unique. At ITC Thailand, our vets see cases like his every single month. Yet, no matter how critical their condition, we never give up on these animals. Every stray deserves comfort, kindness, and the hope of a better tomorrow.

Today, Ricado is still at our centre, bravely fighting through each stage of treatment. His road to recovery will be long, but with patience, love, and expert care, we believe his future can be bright.

Keep following our social media for updates on Ricado’s progress — and join us in cheering for this little survivor as he takes his first steps toward a new life.
