As the autumn sun blazed over Los Angeles, dog rescuer Suzette Hall received a desperate message about a pup left outside an abandoned warehouse with no shelter from the heat.
“[She was] tied in a business area and left behind in the hot sun …” Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, later wrote on Facebook. She was already transporting another rescue and worried she wouldn’t reach the dog in time.
Looking at the picture of the shaggy pup, her fur matted and her body tethered to a staircase, Hall knew she needed help. She called a friend, Mary Nakiso, who had just gotten off work — and without hesitation, Nakiso raced to the scene.
At first, Nakiso couldn’t spot the pup. Then, she found her tied to a nearby fence instead of the staircase from the original photo.
“Someone had moved her to a fence and tied her there,” Hall wrote. “With no water all day, she was shaking.”
The pup, later named Brinley, trembled in fear and exhaustion, but her spirit brightened the moment she realized Nakiso was there to save her.
“She knew [Nakiso] was there to help her,” Hall said. “I’m sure all day, she was hoping someone was coming.”
Hall soon arrived and rushed Brinley to Camino Pet Hospital, where she received medical care and a much-needed grooming.
Now, just a week later, Brinley is thriving in a loving foster home. She spends her days curled up in a cozy bed, soaking up affection from her foster family.
“She is still a little shut down, but with an amazing foster making her feel like a princess, she finally knows what love feels like,” Hall shared.
From trembling in the heat to resting in comfort, Brinley’s future is now filled with hope and love.
